Description:
Dr James McHaffie. MB ChB, MRNZCGP. Doctor in Ōtaki from 1951, he set up his surgery in the front rooms of his home in Domain Road. He also worked at both the Sanatorium and the Ōtaki Maternity Home (originally called the Cottage Hospital). He regarded midwifery as a very challenging aspect of a medical career but also one of the most rewarding parts of family practice.
